Co-Co Lab –
Lakes College, Cumbria, November
CoMusica is a network of Youth Music projects that are managed by The
Sage Gateshead. Boom Dang The Band is part of CoMusica. Twice a year CoMusica
holds gatherings for the young people involved in the projects. These
gatherings are an opportunity for people to perform, learn new skills
and collaborate. This gathering is focussing on duo collaborations –
projects linking up with other projects. Boom Dang The Band are collaborating
with rapping/DJ group, Exile.
For this Dan has composed and recorded a hip-hop piece designed to be
played by 150 musicians and will be showcased at the big opening of The
Sage Gateshead. The gasthering is also an opportunity to rehearse this
piece.
Pennington
School – World Music and Dance Day, November
We are running a two-day world music class for the pupils. This is for
the whole school, from Reception to Year 6. They will learn grooves and
dances from across the globe, which will culminate in performances to
parents and each other.
Southfield
Samba Band, November ongoing
For the second year we are directing the Southfield Samba Band. The first
year was spent learning new, original material written and arranged by
Hands On Rhythm. This is weekly sessions using their kit.
The Sage Gateshead
– Opening Weekend, December
We have collaborated with The Sage Gateshead for the past 4 years and
feel honoured and proud to be part of this organisation.
The Sage Gateshead is the stunning £70 million Norman Foster building
that provides music facilities for all kinds of music. It is also the
home of Folkworks and Northern Sinfonia.
We have been invited to attend the opening weekend celebrations with
Boom Dang The Band and Salt who will perform and entertain the thousands
that will attend.
Exile Collaboration,
December
Boom Dang The Band will collaborate with Exile rapping extraordinaires
from the North East. We are hosting a residential weekend in December.
The lads from Exile will come over to Furness and together will work on
new, original material using Boom Dang drums, bass guitar, electric guitar
and freestyle rapping.
Cumbria Youth
Music Action Zone Launch, December
Boom Dang The Band will play to celebrate the launch of Cunbria Youth
Music Action Zone at The Forum 28 in Barrow.
Drum Making,
January 05
We have been commissioned to make Boom Dang drums for three new bands.
We will provide a package of instruments, tuition and training in the
new style.
CoMusica Celebration
– The Sage Gateshead, February 05
CoMusica, the Youth Music Action Zone, developed and managed by The Sage
Gateshead is celebrating five years of placing music performances and
education of international quality at the heart of it`s local communities.
Boom Dang is one of ten projects that are managed by The Sage Gateshead
and also began five years ago with Youth Music funding.
This is a weekend of celebrating all the bands, groups, rappers, singers
and DJ`s that have been rehearsing and performing since CoMusica began.
We will showcase a new and exciting piece of music, written by Dan Fox
of Hands On Rhythm. This piece has been written for an ensemble of 150
players. It is Hip-Hop influenced and will be performed by Boom Dang The
Band, samba drummers, rappers, singers, clog dancers, folk musicians,
rock bands and DJ`s.
Research &
Development
We are currently researching funds to enable us to expand and develop.
We are also researching new state of the art sound equipment and looking
at developing a show connecting scientists and the arts.
Collaborations with
Welfare State International
Build
A Band – with Welfare State International, November ongoing
Artists Dan Fox and Dave Young found, borrowed, traded, sourced copper
pipes, funnels, mouthpieces, reeds and bellows. They have designed and
constructed prototypes for musical instruments based on new and old ideas.
