Four Corners – Barcelona Exchange
Through Northumbrian company – Four Corners, Boom Dang The Band took take part in an exchange trip to Barcelona. The band were guest musicians at a young person’s music festival. The event was to showcase a sharing of traditional music and dance from the north of England and Catalonia.

Musicians from Four Corners taught Northumbrian tunes and dances to young people in schools around Catalonia. Boom Dang The Band were invited to perform, representing carnival music from the UK. Prior to this Dan taught Catalonian teachers two rhythms that are played by Boom Dang The Band. They taught their pupils these rhythms, which we played together at a young people’s celebration day.

During their stay, Boom Dang The Band collaborated with the Allela Red Devils, an adult drumming band. Together we played and paraded through the streets of Alella to celebrate an annual fire show. We have made a documentary DVD of our trip.

Salt The Band – Planet Salt Tour
Dan Fox plays trombone, melodian and tuned bells in the Anglo-Dutch brass and percussion ensemble. Salt played their successful 3rd European tour with 35 gigs between June and September. Their music has been described as “acoustic houmpa pop”. Their tour took them to Holland, Belgium, Jersey and England.

The Big Gig – Youth Music
Youth Music is the charity set up to provide music making opportunities for children and young people. This year they celebrated five years of work putting music at the heart of the communities.

We were approached and invited to bring Boom Dang The Band to play at their celebration gig.

We represented Cumbria at their celebration performance, which took place on June 15th 2004 at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

We felt great pride to be part of the performance, which showcased five years of achievement and brought together young music makers from across the UK.

The Big Sing – The Sage Gateshead
The Big Sing was a concert to celebrate the exciting and challenging musical activities that The Sage Gateshead is already offering to the young people of the north of England.

It was the coming together of 2000 singers from Cumbria, the North East and everywhere in between.

Musical Directors Andrew Scott and Em Whitfield invited Boom Dang The Band to accompany the 2000 singers and provide the rhythm section.

Culgaith + Armathwaite Schools
Hands On Rhythm did a month`s residency in both schools working with children aged between 4 and 10. A programme was developed using three elements: dance, big red drums and accordion tunes.

Lakeside YMCA, ongoing
Hands On Rhythm provided a drumming activity to the YMCA as part of their corporate training division. We have worked with many groups, to deliver “Band In A Day”. Companies who want an activity with a difference choose this programme as a fun, challenging and meaningful event to compliment their conference.

Conference Of Music Teachers, Sunderland University
Hands On Rhythm were invited to provide training to music teachers from the north east as part of their conference linked to training and delivering new styles of music in schools.

In the past we have used our Bamboo Boogaloo activity (stick making) linking it to body percussion and voice. This year we used Boom Dang drums to demonstrate our skills in making music accessible to all in under an hour and still able to create a good sound.
